Celebrity to Debut Edge-Class Ship in Fall 2018

800px-celebrity_silhouette_ship_2011_001Celebrity Cruises announced the names and delivery schedule for the first two vessels of its newest class of ships, the Edge-class, only a few days ago. They will be named Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Beyond.

The first piece of steel was cut and the construction of the first of the next generation of cruise ships officially began at the STX France shipyard in Saint Nazaire.

Celebrity Edge will be the first of the premium cruise line- Edge-class and the cruise ship is set for delivery in the fall of 2018. Edge is the first new class of ships for the company since 2008 when Celebrity Solstice debuted, followed by the other four Solstice-class ships – Equinox, Eclipse, Silhouette and Reflection.

The second vessel from the new Edge line will be named Celebrity Beyond and will be delivered in spring 2020, the said from the cruise line.

Celebrity’s President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said in a statement that he would be excited to see his team’s dreams turn into reality over the following 24 months. He promised to reveal more details soon and said travelers and partners would not be disappointed.

The next two, third and fourth, yet-to-be-named ships from the Edge class are scheduled to be delivered in 2021 and in 2022, respectively.

Celebrity currently operates 12 cruise ships that sail across seven continents. Some of them, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Silhouette, Celebrity Reflection and Celebrity Eclipse, sail from Port Everglades or PortMiami.
