Royal Caribbean’s 225,000-ton Oasis of the Seas, flag ship of the world’s largest class of cruise vessels, will sail into Port Canaveral on Saturday, November 5, and will berth at Cruise Terminal 1 for the winter 2016-2017 cruise season.

Port Authority is making final preparations for the arrival of the huge ship. Port Canaveral CEO John Murray says in a press release that the community has been excited about the news that Oasis of the Seas will homeport at Port Canaveral, since Royal Caribbean International made the announcement several months ago.

The $105 million 187,500 square foot two-story Terminal 1 was completed and opened two years ago. The project was planned to be the most efficient cruise terminal in the world. It features 1007-vehicle parking facility and a 1,400-foot-long berth which can accommodate the largest cruise ships that are sailing at the present time, especially Oasis-class ships.

The Oasis of the Seas, which carries 5,400 passengers at double occupancy will replace the 3,600 passenger Freedom of the Seas at Port Canaveral. Freedom will move to Port Everglades and  continue eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. As Oasis will offer alternate eastern and western seven-night Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, starting November 13.
