Norwegian Unveils a Massive Alaska-bound Cruise Ship

800px-Norwegian_Epic_water_chute_2Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line has recently announced that it will launch a massive new ship specifically designed for cruises to Alaska.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Port of Seattle’s Pier 66 only a few days ago. The Norwegian Bliss will be the first cruise ship to offer custom-designed features and amenities for “ultimate Alaska cruise experience.” The new 4,000-passenger Norwegian Bliss is the 3rd Breakaway Plus class ship. The vessel is currently being constructed at the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Germany. The ship is set to make its debut in June 2018 with sailings between Seattle and Alaska.

In a ceremony at the Port of Seattle’s Pier 66 Thursday afternoon, Norwegian announced that the 4,000-passenger Norwegian Bliss, which is being constructed at the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Germany, will start cruising in June 2018. It will offer seven-day itineraries with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway in Alaska, and Victoria, British Columbia.

Continuing the tradition of decorating each ship’s hull with signature art, Norwegian Cruise Line also announced that Wyland, the world’s premier marine life artist, known for his iconic whale murals, marine life paintings and sculptures, has been commissioned to design the hull artwork for Norwegian Bliss.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Norwegian’s parent company, has entered into a 15-year agreement with the Port of Seattle to collectively invest $30 million to upgrade the facilities of Pier 66. The plans include a 300% expansion of the guest check-in space to more than 150,000 square feet, a new VIP lounge with views of Elliott Bay, and the addition of two new elevated passenger boarding bridges.

Further information on the features of the Norwegian Bliss and homeport schedules for fall through spring has not yet been provided.
